Challenges of Bundling Tech Support Services for Clients

New TechnologiesThere are many individuals and companies out there today offering Tech Support or IT Consulting to organizations as a outsourced service offering. Organizations have many various goals, systems, tools and needs when it comes to technology and their own success.

Historically, having a phone system, desktop Windows computers, maybe a server or two, an email system and website, and some backup and power solutions have been common denominators for many organizations. Technology is changing so rapidly, though, that small businesses, non-profits, and even large organizations are going through more and more regular change when it comes to the technology they use and the work they do.

As a provider of Technology Support Solutions, NSI Partners TechConnect services need to be flexible enough to address a range of customer needs, yet stable enough to be predictable, somewhat consistent, and easy to bundle for our clients. Over the past several months, I have done extensive research and testing of newer security and antivirus products for Windows, Mac, and Android operating systems and platforms.

I have compared confugrations, customizations, and management options, and have determined that for the foreseeable future, NSI TechConnect will be primarily recommending, licensing and supporting ESET Endpoint security for our clients.

In addition, I have spent some time using, testing, and configuring LogMeIn Pro in a number of environments, and believe it is a great set of tools for our client’s devices and remote support needs. The Pro version of LogMeIn offers features that other services don’t (such as file sharing from your device, remote printing from a remote computer to your current location, automated Windows update management, and a number of other useful features).

With these two products meeting the minimal baseline needs of today’s primary computing platforms (security for Windows, remote access for support, and awareness and management of Windows updates/security threats/computer hardware), our offerings to clients with TechConnect Protect are cost-effective and address most of the common support and vulnerability issues with Windows-based desktops, laptops, and tablet computers.

We add to these “base” products about a dozen or so “best-in-class” free utilities that help users with everything from disk defrags to file encryption, and also setup several weekly scans in the background that run automatically and help keep Windows computers in good shape.

For the most part, the TechConnect Protect package is designed to target our customers who still rely on Windows-based computers for their productivity needs. However, more and more people are turning to iPads and Mac computers to do their work with, and so TechConnect staff are up to date on iOS and OS X environments. The user needs are different, and there are fewer security or management issues, but people still need remote support and assistance with accomplishing tasks with these devices, and NSI Partners TechConnect staff offer these services to our clients as well.

Lastly, these days many people are doing work from smart phones, but not always realizing what apps are best, or even that there ARE apps to do certain productivity tasks, and people are also unaware of the growing security problems on some smartphone platforms, particularly Android, now the most popular phone platform globally. In this area as well, TechConnect staff spend time with the various OSes and apps to be able to provide our customers reliable, current support. Technology is changing so fast, and the way we work and play is changing as well.

If you need guidance on these areas from people who live and breathe as much as possible in this chaotic and fast-changing universe, please fill out the Form on the main page or contact us today.
